"The journey of the woods, visiting history" Educational fair---Activity Review.

April 4th, was the Children's Day and Ching Ming Festival. On this day, Wood Sculpture Gallery held an educational fair, "The journey of the woods, visiting history." Every visitor was handed a points card, which led them to join different activities and visit the gallery.

The museum was located in the town of Puli, and is surrounded by the mountains. On the third day of the national holiday, the fair was held lively. The theme of the activity was monk Qingshui and Sudhana. With Sudhana's hardworking spirit, it leads the visitors to learn in fun.

When you enter the fair, the spinning board caught everyone's attention. The chance to spin the board was for the visitor who had joined the activities, and had familiar themselves with the objects in the gallery. The prizes of the board came with the discount vouchers for the gallery gift shop, and many other shops in Puli.

The activities at the fair include: the wood sculptural technique of chalk lining, the demonstration of wood sculpting, wood painting, and braiding different objects by using secondhand clothes, which were friendly for children to join. Apart from interactive activities, there was an educational stall for visitors to learn about different plants, which include the introduction of the frequently seen plant in Buddhist art, the lotus and water lily, and also a guided tour at the gallery garden. Considering the pandemic prevention, visitors who had joined the activity did not forget to wear masks during their visits. In the Wood Sculpture Galley, there were many information boards, leading visitors to self-learn about different wood sculptural techniques, and the vary patterns seen in Buddhist art.

By taking notes and answering the questions on the points card, the visitors could learn by themselves. In the feedbacks, some visitors told us that the fair gave them a friendly experience to visit the museum, and it was also an objective approach to learn about Buddhist art.

The fair was scheduled to hold last year, a year after, it was finally held and is now over. We hope the visitors who participated in the activities would bear the kind and hardworking attitudes in their heart, and we wish that these kind hearted thoughts will transfer its merit to the pandemic, wishing the end of the pandemic will come soon, so the people will live in peace again.

The middle of the fair and the gallery space, we welcomed everyone to take photos here.

Visitors joining different activities.

Join the activity of wood painting. We could feel the texture of the wood, and smell the aromatic sense of camphor.

The guided tour in the gallery garden.

When we drop water on the lotus leaves, cotton fabric, and water-proofing fabric, we can see their different water permeabilities.

We cut the secondhand clothes into stipes, and braided them into objects to use in daily life.

The teacher prepared many leaves and games to introduce you the frequently seen, yet barely known leaves and butterflies.

If you don't look closely, you will not know there are so many patterns on the robe in the gallery.

The teacher was demonstrating wood sculpting techniques. Little by little, the wood turned into something familiar!

Lining it slowly, the craftsman's decorating technique is not so easy! Let's try it ourself !
