Story Time with Miss Treehouse --- Activity Review.

In 2021, Wood Sculpture Gallery has arranged three sessions of "Story Time with Miss Treehouse" for the visiting children at the gallery. It is led by the former gallery staff, Ko Nai-lun, and the gallery director, Venerable Jian Pai. Within one hour, children from age 7 to 9, will be listening to stories, and joining the gallery guide tour. The children participating in these sessions, not only can recall their personal experience with the objects at the gallery, it also can encourage them to visit the gallery space.

The first session was held in 20th, March, and the story that was told is from A Shine-a-light Book: Secrets of the Apple Tree. During the session, the storyteller held a little torch. With the torch lightening under the pages, the empty branches, leaves, spaces behind the tree, and even in the pile of fallen leaves, all revealed the vary hidden insects, birds, mushrooms, and frogs! The children were very excited and focused, the more secrets they explored from the apple tree, the more familiar they are with the nature.

After story time, the gallery director led the children to the gallery space, guiding them to observe the details on the objects. For instance, on the sleeve of the sculpture of Arhat, the wooden texture is visible, which appears like the sculpture is wearing a cloth! However, the texture is formed by layers of mud, paper, and linen, to prevent cracking from staying in different temperature and humidity.

This year Wood Sculpture Gallery combines story telling with gallery guide tour for the children's educational activity. This allows visitors to visit the gallery and learn together in fun. The next session of Story Time with Miss Treehouse will be held in July! Please visit museum website for the latest information.
